Final Fantasy fans can rejoice, because Final Fantasy VII Remake finally has a release date. Just as the E3 2019 conferences for the Sunday were dying down, Sony popped up to confirm that Final Fantasy VII Remake will release on March 3, 2020, and also shared some more footage from the game.
Although it was initially revealed all the way back in 2015 at the E3 expo of that year, Square Enix has not always been open about how development has been coming along with Final Fantasy VII remake. Of late, though, things have been ramped up dramatically, with Square Enix sharing some brand new gameplay footage back in May. Fans were therefore excited to see if more details would be revealed as part of E3 2019.
The most wanted answer to the myriad of questions still surrounding Final Fantasy VII has now been given, and it’s come ahead of Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference. Sony casually dropped the release date for Final Fantasy VII over on Twitter, with Final Fantasy VII confirmed to launch on March 3, 2020. This was released with some new footage to boot.
This follows the in-person announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s release date at a Final Fantasy VII: A Symphonic Reunion concert. There, director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase were on hand to confirm the release date to those fans who turned up to the concert. Funnily enough, Square Enix followed a similar format for the announcement of the release date of Kingdom Hearts 3.
Final Fantasy VII Remake has been in development for a long time, along the way even getting a new co-director in the form of Naoki Hamaguchi. However, given the scope of the project and the sheer number of eyes waiting on this remake, it’s perhaps no surprise to see Square Enix taking its time over it to make sure it’s right.
All that remains now is to see what Square Enix will share about the game as part of E3 2019. After such a major announcement, all eyes will be on the company to see what other details can be shared, so expect to see Final Fantasy VII Remake play a big part in the presentation, alongside that mysterious new intellectual property.
