[UPDATE: James Wan has debunked this Aquaman trailer rumor.]
-
A new Instagram post may suggest that the first Aquaman trailer might be coming soon. The upcoming superhero flick - directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and based on a script by Will Beall (Venom, Gangster Squad), and starring Jason Momoa as the eponymous superhero - is the only DCEU film slated to hit theaters in 2018, and it’s releasing over a year after the character’s official debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Aquaman is the first movie to release after Justice League, and it will take place after the events of that superhero team-up movie, showing Arthur Curry integrating with Atlantis and attempting to be the bridge between two worlds: the underwater “dwellers” of Atlantis and the rest of the surface world. Aside from a brief clip that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017, the only marketing material for Aquaman has been a handful of first look images. But now it seems that there just might be a trailer on the way.
Composer Carlos Villalobos posted a picture of Aquaman on Instagram today (below), hinting that he’s working on composing the music for either the movie or just the film’s first trailer. Considering that he hasn’t done much work on film before, it would be safer to assume that he’s only composing the music for Aquaman’s first teaser.

Since Aquaman doesn’t release until the end of December, it seems strange for Warner Bros. to start marketing the film this early on, especially when there are plenty of other projects that’s on their slate. However, considering that it is the only live-action DC film on their calendar for the year, perhaps they want to get a jump-start on getting the project in front of as many eyes as possible.
If Villalobos is, indeed, scoring the first teaser, then it seems like there’s at least some scenes from Justice League will be featured in the first teaser. After all, image on the screen looks like Aquaman from the scene in which the League unites for the first time (with Superman). What’s likely is that Warner Bros. is gearing up to release the first teaser alongside Roar Uthaug’s Tomb Raider and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One - both of which are WB productions hitting theaters in March.
It’s worth noting that the first trailers for Batman V Superman, Justice League, and Wonder Woman all released at least one year prior to their official releases (some of which debuted at Comic-Con and was posted online shortly thereafter). And so, there’s certainly a precedent for the first footage to debut this early on for Aquaman. Still, this news should be taken as a rumor until confirmed either by Warner Bros. or until an Aquaman trailer is officially certified.
