UPDATE: Warner Bros. contacted Screen Rant to say this is just a look at the official title treatment on a CineEurope standee, not an official teaser poster. The original article follows.
The first teaser poster for Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) better highlights the movie’s logo. From the moment Margot Robbie was cast as Harley Quinn, it seemed inevitable that her version of the character would be a big hit with audiences. That was true in Suicide Squad, and pushed Warner Bros. to find every possible way to get her back on the screen. They developed a number of different projects, but it was Birds of Prey that Robbie took a special interest in, and helped push it far enough long to be her second appearance.
While a script has been in the works since 2016, Birds of Prey only really picked up steam over the last year. In that time, Cathy Yan was hired to direct the film, a cast that includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Ewan McGregor formed, and production began and already finished. The quickness of the movie’s turnaround is possible thanks to a smaller budget and approach, but also necessary as it’ll hit theaters in February 2020.
With that release date and after a brief teaser video shared when production began, many fans have been eager to see proper marketing from Birds of Prey. So far, Warner Bros. has been quiet on that front, but did show off the film’s official logo at CineEurope. The Regal Cinema Wadebridge shared the new teaser poster on their Instagram. It’s the final photo in the slideshow below and features a clean but cool look at what appears to be the film’s official logo.
This logo was previously spotted on Margot Robbie’s chair from production, but it was unclear at that time if it would be the actual logo used. With WB sharing the logo on this poster with attendees, it does appear that they’ll keep the logo - at least for now. Hopefully, we won’t see the logo change throughout Birds of Prey’s marketing campaign, as it already helps communicate what the movie holds. The handwritten tag from Harley perfectly encapsulates her attitude, while the rest of the logo is filled with Easter eggs for DC fans. Huntress’ mask and arrow can be seen right away, with a bat, a mallet, brass knuckles, a jewel (which reportedly is integral to the plot), and more all included.
Now that this early poster has surfaced online, it hopefully won’t be too long before it’s officially released. After all, Patty Jenkins has continued to share teases of Wonder Woman 1984, and Birds of Prey should get some attention first thanks to its earlier release. However, it’s also possible that this is just an early concept poster for exhibitors, and that a different design will be chosen by WB for the first officially released poster. Either way, it’s now expected that this logo will continue to be part of any and all future Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) marketing materials.
