The first clip from Avengers: Endgame has been released and teases the Avengers’ plan to defeat Thanos. The Marvel Cinematic Universe received a massive change to the status quo at the end of Avengers: Infinity War after Thanos snapped half of the universe’s population out of existence. This has left only a handful of heroes left standing and they are all highly motivated in Avengers: Endgame to bring back those that were lost.
While this goal has become abundantly clear, the actual plan that the Avengers will follow to try and do this is not. Trying to set the universe back to how it was pre-snap may involve time travel and the Quantum Realm, as the Infinity Stones sound like the MacGuffin of another MCU film. Most of these details are only known thanks to footage descriptions that came from Disney shareholders and out of CinemaCon, but fans around the world were not yet able to see the footage for themselves.
As part of GMA’s exclusive interview with the original six Avengers, the show also debuted the first clip from Avengers: Endgame. The footage is a section of the footage that Disney has already been showing, making it an understandable choice for the first clip from the movie. The segment included an interview with cast members Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner. View the full clip released by Marvel below.
This is only the final minute of the full scene that has previously been shown, but the cue of Alan Silvestri’s score at the end plays as though it could be the transition to the title card, possibly making this sequence one of the earliest in the movie. In its final form, the scene will include more discussion between the present Avengers about what they need to do next. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) will remark that she needs to go kill Thanos, which is when Nebula (Karen Gillan) reveals that she knows he is at his “garden.” Rocket then pulls up a hologram of this location, which appears to be what Black Widow is staring at when this clip begins. And even though the description of this scene has been online for a while, now everyone can check out a portion of it.
The releasing of this clip (if it is the lead up to the title card as is speculated) further indicates that several scenes in the marketing to this point are very early on. Nebula and Tony would already be back on Earth at this point, so reunions would have happened already, making it time for a plan to be put together. That said, it is very surprising that Tony is not included in what could be a pivotal scene early on. But, he could be spending time with Pepper Potts during this time or even working on a plan of his own. Either way, this is just the first clip that Marvel will likely release in the remaining weeks before Avengers: Endgame hits theaters, so hopefully subsequent ones won’t give too much away.
