The first look at Sam Wilson’s suit as Captain America is revealed in the poster for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first series for Disney+ is set for debut next year and will see Anthony Mackie’s Falcon team up with Sebastian Stan’s the Winter Soldier for their own adventure. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show will also feature the return of some familiar faces from the franchise, including primary villain Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) - the mastermind behind the events of Captain America: Civil War.
With Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) now retired in the MCU, the iconic shield has now been passed to Sam, effectively making him the next Captain America. Mackie revealed during San Diego Comic-Con that he already had his costume fitting as his upcoming superhero alter-ego, but the reveal of how his suit looks like has been held back until this weekend’s D23 Expo. Now, fans can see a portion of his armor thanks to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s first poster.
Spotted by Twitter user Sebastian Stan Updates at the Disney-exclusive convention is the one-sheet for the upcoming The Falcon and The Winter Soldier featuring its two leading men. In the poster, Bucky ditches his long locks, - reminiscent of his original look from the ’40s, while Sam sports his suit as Captain America. Check out the image below:
While it’s not front and center, fans can see that Sam’s Captain America suit is similar to the one the character sported in the comic books, albeit with some tweaks. It’s also different from the ones fans saw Roger sported throughout his 10-year appearance in the MCU. At this point, it’s important to make sure that fans can easily distinguish this new version of the super soldier from the old one - a difficult task at hand considering how beloved Evans is in that role. On top of that, not everyone is convinced that Marvel Studios made the right move to hand Sam the shield instead of Bucky.
As Mackie said, however, he remains to be the Falcon in the series. He reiterated that idea once again while he made the rounds during D23 making fans more curious how he’ll eventually take on the mantle. Looking at the poster, his suit, while different, still looks very much like his old Falcon battle armor, which can mean that by the time The Falcon and The Winter Soldier begins, he is still using his old superhero persona. This fits into the rumor that the show will center on the government not wanting him to be the next Captain America. Assuming that this will be the case, it’s far more interesting to see his find his way to become worthy of the superhero mantle rather than him quickly fitting into the role.
