How to Fix Google Pixel Buds Audio Issue
Well, you don’t have to worry about it. Just make sure to follow the steps below to fix the issue.
1. Manually Update Firmware
Although if there is an update available for your connected Google Pixel Buds, the system will automatically install the update. However, it may possible that somehow the automatic updates are turned off on the handset. In that scenario, even if a notification will appear on your device when an update is available, it won’t be downloaded or installed on your Pixel Buds until you do it manually.
- For Pixel device users with Android 10 or above: Go to Settings > Connected devices > Pixel Bud’s settings.
- On other Android devices: Open the Google Pixel Buds app on the handset > scroll down and select More settings > Firmware update > Tap on the toggle to turn automatic updates on.
2. Check the Music App
If in case, the music is not playing on the Pixel Buds then try tapping once on the earbuds or the device because some apps do not work with touch controls on the earbuds. So, you may need to manually change playbacks or perform actions directly on the device rather than taps or gestures.

3. Charge both Earbuds and Charging Case Sufficiently
It’s also worth mentioning to cross-check whether your Pixel Buds and the charging case are sufficiently charged or not. If one of them doesn’t have enough charge level or the battery is going to die then put the earbuds inside the case and charge the case for at least half an hour before trying to check the audio issue.
4. Turn On Bluetooth and Pair Again
- Make sure to confirm that Bluetooth is turned on and your Pixel Buds are within the range of connectivity strength.
- Additionally, head over to the device Settings menu > Turn Bluetooth off and on.
- Wait for the Pixel Buds to automatically reconnect with your previously connected device. It may take several seconds. If required, you can change which device you’re connected to by selecting ‘Pixel Buds’ from the Bluetooth menu on your device.
- If you’re still experiencing audio issues then make sure to select ‘Forget’ your Pixel Buds from the device then restart the device along with earbuds. Once restarted, make sure to pair your Pixel Buds again with the device.
5. Clean Pixel Buds Earbuds Individually
It’s also worth recommending gently clean both of your earbuds using a dry cloth to remove dust/dirt/moisture or any kind of debris around the microphone or speaker holes. Try not to be harsh to avoid damaging the microphone or speaker vents. Do not insert anything in these areas for sure.
6. Reset your Pixel Buds
If in case, you’re still experiencing issues with the Google Pixel Buds earbuds then you should try resetting your Pixel Buds by following the steps below:
Note: Resetting the Pixel Buds and the charging case will reset all their settings to the factory defaults including the earbuds name and preferences.
- Plug the charging case into a power source using the stock USB Type-C cable.
- Make sure that the Pixel Buds are properly placed inside the charging case seated within the charging case and leave the charging case open.
- Press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case for around 30 seconds.
- When the earbuds indicator light stops blinking, release the pairing button.
- The earbuds indicator light will blink white and orange until the reset is complete. Then the indicator light will start blinking in white.
- Your Google Pixel Buds will be reset completely and they should be ready to pair immediately.
7. Replace the Ear Tip with a proper size
You should also confirm whether you’re using a properly sized ear tip on the Pixel Buds or not. Check which ear tip size is going well with the adjustment of your ear physically. Choosing a properly sized ear tip will also provide optimal audio quality.
8. Keep your Earbuds and Phone close enough
No matter whether you’re indoor or outdoor, if your earbuds are placed at a distance from the connected phone or vice versa then the chances are high enough that the Bluetooth connectivity issue may appear. In that scenario, the audio quality will also get affected a lot.

9. Adjust Volume Levels on both earbuds
Sometimes a low volume level on the device media control or directly on the earbuds audio volume settings can cause several issues with the audio experience. So, if you’re experiencing the low volume on both earbuds then try adjusting the volume level settings on both devices first and then try checking the issue again.
10. Turn Off ‘Disable Absolute Volume’ [Pixel Devices Only]
If you’re using Google Pixel phones then you may need to turn off the ‘Disable absolute volume’ option from the Developer Options menu.
- Go to Settings > Tap on More Settings > Go to Developers options.
- Turn off the ‘Disable absolute volume’ toggle.
- Reboot your device and try again.
11. Enable ‘Media Volume Sync’ [Non-Pixel Android Devices Only]
If you’re using the non-Pixel Android handset then you should turn on the ‘Media Volume Sync’ feature on the device by following the steps below:
- Enable ‘Media Volume Sync’ from Settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Advanced.
12. Rename Pixel Buds and Reconnect Again
- Go to your device’s Settings > Tap on Network > Bluetooth.
- Select your Google Pixel Buds Settings then Edit the name of the earbuds.
- Rename it to “ABS-DO-ENABLE” then tap and hold the device name > Disconnect the earbuds from the handset and search for the newly renamed device on the Bluetooth list.
- Once searched and detected, tap on the device name (ABS-DO-ENABLE) to reconnect again.
